Pekingese

When you have fallen in love with the pekingese, you have to concider several things, before you  buy a puppy or an adult dog, because the pekingese is “unatural” built if you compare it to other breeds.

The head has to be wide and big, - the skull wide and flat. – the eyes must be apart and be big round and dark- dominating but absolutly not prominent. The nose has to be short and wide with big nostrils, wich is well open. Teeth and tung must not be showing. - The neck must be short and vigorous- if this is in order the dog will absolutely not have difficulty in breathing, as some with lack of knowlegde for the breeds anatomi, likes to claim.

The breed is unique because of the roll when it walks. The roll in front is caused by a broad and well developed chest, wich also causes the pear-shaped body.- The front part has very vigorous legs,- where the bones in the front legs must be lightly curved, the shulders ferm,- the front paws has to be lightly out-turned.- the back has to be straight. This special structure in the front in combination with the very closely placed rear legs, wich is built more lightly but still needs to forme the right angle, gives the breed the special rolling walk.

If I had to introduce this small dog further, it would be like this: the pekingese is loving, independent, intelligent, lively, and often very beautiful. It is a breed you very well can enjoy, as an alone dog or together with other dogs, I have seen many warm friendships between the dogs. A pekingese can not be loved to much or get to much attention, the more you take care of the dog, the more happy and free it gets, and we all want at happy and harmonic pekingese.

A pekingese walk easely, but it has to walk in its “own pace”, wich is more slowly than other breeds. When the pekingese is built right: ferm, right shoulder angel and a hind part without loose joints and muscles, you optain the build wich is typical for the breed, and then the special walk appears.

The period, wich from a learning- and adaptations point a view is very important for the puppy, is when it is 3 - 13 weeks old, wich is called the socialize period, but equaly importent for the puppy is the period from 5 months to 9-10 months or even to a year of age.  In the beginning of the first period it is decided who is becoming the puppys nearst “social friend” and if it will be able to establish sociale relations later on. It is also decided how close the puppys relationship to people will be and how well it will “understand” him or her. Many people fail to see the second period and then it often goes wrong. The dog develope what I call social fright or invironment fright.

The puppy is very aware of what it experience or not experience, in that age and that is why  something often goes wrong, because the puppy do not experience anything. The puppy is bigger and takes more time, but it is now the puppy needs to extend and stabilize its already acquired knowlegde about lifes versatility, and this is where people often let it down.

Lack of human contact = insecure of humans and lack of experiences = invironment fright.

Dogs, and this goes for all breeds, are sensitive beings, who needs a stabil relationship to people to avoid suffering from any psychical damage, and everything points to that the dogs not always get their needs fulfilled by being with people. The growing number of animal psychologists in almost any town tells the truth. But dogs are not little machines who ones in a while needs to get their more or less defect life repaired by the mechanic/ psychologist- think about that.

Japanese-Chin

Do you love the Japanese-Chin, you have to be aware of the following.

A Japanese-Chin is lighter build and has longer legs than the Pekingese, but it has the same relativly big head with big dark eyes. The nose has to be in line with the eyes and it has to have white teeth.

A Japanese-Chin is a small quadrilateral build dog with a relativly short neck. The chest has to be moderate in widesness and depth. The back is straight and short. The bonestem on the Japanese-Chin are thin. The frontlegs are straight and it has moderate angled hindlegs. It has paws like a hare wich has to be covered in fur. The tail must be worn upon the back. The fur is silky and the entire body has lots of fur except for the face. Ears, neck, thighs and tail have fury vanes.

A Japanese-Chin is a dog which moves elegant and graceful with characteristic high frontleg lift - it floats.

A Japanese-Chin is a friendly, lively and lovable small dog which like any other dogs need its daily excercice to thrive. A Japanese-Chin actually has the ability to walk a long distance.

Naturally, the period for socialisation, learning ect. is the same for both races.
